Nadia Caidi is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto, which she joined in 2000. She holds an MLIS and a Ph.D. from the Department of Information Studies, at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also holds an MST in Communication Studies from the Universite Stendhal Grenoble 3, France.

Her primary research interests are information policy and social/community informatics. She is also involved in cross-cultural and comparative studies, researching the influence of culture on the production, distribution and use of information and its technologies.

Nadia's research on information control and the public's right to know in times of crisis (and in the context of national security) has been awarded two three-year grants (2004-2007, 2007-2010) from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in Canada. She is currently completing a book on this topic (to be published by Blackwell Publishing).

She is also involved in researching the information practices of vulnerable communities, including newcomers and immigrant groups, Aboriginal communities in Northern Ontario as well as other vulnerable populations.

In the past, she had received grants from the A.W. Mellon Foundation and the Center for International Business Education and Research (Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA) for her research on the development of national information infrastructures in Central and Eastern Europe.
